2013 Jayco White Hawk: what breaks, and at what mileage

What breaks on the 2013 Jayco White Hawk

Only 2 defect reports have been filed with NHTSA about the 2013 Jayco White Hawk, which is too few to compute mileage percentiles or a risk score. The reports reported other suspension problem.

When each failure gets reported

Median
  1. Other suspension problem 2k
  2. Other wheel or tire problem 2k

Tick median reported mileage Solid middle half of reports Faint 10th to 90th percentile Colour how bad the failure is when it happens

How reports accumulate

Share of reports filed by each mileage

Every report with an odometer reading, cumulative, from 0 to 200,000 miles. A curve that climbs early is a car with early problems, whatever its total.

Every reported failure mode

Mileage figures are percentiles of owner-reported readings. Click a column to sort.
Failure mode System Reports With reading 25th Median 75th Per 1,000 Typical repair Severity
Other suspension problem suspension 1 1 — 2k — 3.2 $350–$2,000 Moderate
Other wheel or tire problem wheels 1 1 — 2k — 3.2 $200–$1,500 High

Rate per 1,000 uses a fleet-size estimate derived from recall paperwork for this exact model year. It is a lower bound. Repair costs are typical independent-shop ranges for the failure, not figures from these reports.

Other suspension problem

Jayco shipped early model year white hawk travel trailers with 2 3/8" axles (42" wide stance axle spacing). During turning the wide stance axles are bending causing damage to axle, bearing assembly, and tires, because the axles can't hold up to the weight . Tires are getting excessive inside wear on the inside tread, axles are bending, and if not caught in time catching fire. See forum: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15137 regarding other consumers with same issue. Jayco is aware of this issue and so is dexter axle. Dexter axle is providing full replacement of axles to a upgraded 3" axle size to prevent damage mentioned above, if the consumer is proactive and contacts jayco and / or dexter axle. Jayco, at this time, refuses to notify customers of this issue or issue a recall. Being a career fire fighter, I feel jayco is not only putting there consumers in harms way, but the rest of us on the road. *tr

Recalls on the 2013 model year

NHTSA has issued 2 recall campaigns covering the 2013 Jayco White Hawk, affecting an estimated 435 vehicles. A recall is a different kind of evidence from a complaint: it is the regulator and the manufacturer agreeing that something has to be fixed, and the fix is free for as long as the car exists.

The campaigns cover equipment. Whether the work was actually done on the car in front of you is a question only the VIN can answer, and the manufacturer or NHTSA will answer it free.

Recalls also distort complaint counts. Publicity about a campaign reminds owners that complaining is possible, so reports for a recalled component often spike after the recall rather than before it.

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the…
Consequence
In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy

Remedy
Jayco will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the awning motor free of charge. The recall began on May 23, 2013. Owners may contact Jacyo at 1-800-283-8267 for more information.

Every year of the Jayco White Hawk

Scores compare each year against other cars of the same model year, so a low number on an older car is a real result and not an artefact of age.

What the reports on file say

The complaints recorded against the 2013 Jayco White Hawk are other suspension problem (1 report, around 2k miles) and other wheel or tire problem (1 report, around 2k miles). With a sample this size these are anecdotes rather than a pattern, and they are shown because somebody looking at this exact car would rather see them than nothing.

Why this page is short

A model year needs about 8 reports before percentiles mean anything, and this one does not have them. Complaint volume tracks how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road, so a thin page usually means a rare car, a new car, or a car whose owners do not file.

Where this comes from. Every figure above is computed from NHTSA owner complaints and recall records for this exact make, model and year. Complaints are voluntary and self-selected, so treat counts as a floor. The methodology page writes out each formula, and the same numbers are available as JSON.
