Other lighting problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc yukon. While driving various speeds, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer diagnosed that the tail assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,510.
The brake lights on my 2015 are defective. The driver side light went out about nine months ago and now the passenger side light is out. Our local dealership wants $800 apiece for these LED lights that should last many, many years. A quick internet search reveals that 1) the problem is widespread and 2) gm won't acknowledge it. Working brake lights are a matter of safety, and the fact that gm produces these lights as cheaply as possible and then charges an arm and a leg after the parts fail early in their lifetime is suspect to say the least.
Other brake problem
I just completed a claim for my 2015 yukon denali, NHTSA id #: 10643049 and read that almost the same exact issues are going on with the 2015 chevy tahoe models, see: NHTSA id number: 10638437, 10633519 and 10631583. When will gm see there is a pattern and issue a recall for this transmission issue? In all cases these render the calls un-drivable and having to have them towed. *tr
Earlier this year I purchased a 2015 gmc yukon denali. After driving it a short amount of time I realized the brake pedal is located significantly higher than the gas pedal. I've come to realize that the ~4inch gap is causing a severe safety hazard, especially in emergency braking situations. My foot, along with others in the post linked below, often gets caught in the large gap between the gas and the brake, especially when moving quickly. There have been many instances to date where the sole of my shoes has gotten stuck under the brake pedal, preventing me from stopping in time. I've narrowly avoided at least 5 accidents, because of this. Fearing that it is a matter of time before it results in a collision I reached out to gmc to see if there was a fix. They responded and said that the pedals are working as designed and said there was nothing that can be done. I'm very disappointed in their response, especially considering the clear safety hazard it creates. It is a large car, requiring more braking distance than most. Recalls on the 2015 model year
NHTSA has issued 10 recall campaigns covering the 2015 GMC Yukon, affecting an estimated 597,865 vehicles. A recall is a different kind of evidence from a complaint: it is the regulator and the manufacturer agreeing that something has to be fixed, and the fix is free for as long as the car exists.
The campaigns cover electronic stability control (esc), service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum, steering:electric power assist system and air bags:frontal. Whether the work was actually done on the car in front of you is a question only the VIN can answer, and the manufacturer or NHTSA will answer it free.
One caution about reading these together: a recall usually raises the complaint count for the same part, because owners who read about it go and file. The mileages stay informative; the counts get noisy.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
652,967 vehicles 2019-10-24- Defect
- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
- Consequence
- Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy

- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
- Consequence
- As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
1,015,918 vehicles 2018-09-07- Defect
- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. Electric power steering (EPS) assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist.
- Consequence
- If EPS assist is lost and then suddenly returns, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. The recall began October 12, 2018. Due to a problem with the EPS module, the affected vehicles may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist during vehicle operation.
- Consequence
- An unexpected loss of power steering increases the risk of a crash.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW
22 vehicles 2014-07-23- Defect
- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, Suburban LTZ, Tahoe, Tahoe LTZ, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL Denali vehicles manufactured on May 13, 2014. The affected vehicles were assembled with a roof rail air bags (RRAB) that were not reinforced at the points were the bags contact the hardware used to attach the roof carrier.
- Consequence
- During deployment, the RRAB may be punctured or torn by the roof carrier hardware, reducing its performance and increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy

POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)
392,459 vehicles 2014-06-27- Defect
- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles, and model year 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe vehicles. In the affected vehicles, an electrical signal short may cause the transfer case to shift to neutral without the driver's input.
- Consequence
- If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not in use, the vehicle may roll away increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle would lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- GM will notify owners, and dealers will re-program the software in the transfer case control module, free of charge. The recall began in early August 2014. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COOLING UNIT AND LINES
489,936 vehicles 2014-03-31- Defect
- General Motors LLC (GM ) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Light Duty Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab 1500 series and model year 2015 Suburban and Tahoe; GMC model year 2014 Sierra Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab 1500 Series and model year 2015 Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6-Speed Automatic Transmission (feature code MYC). The subject vehicles may have a transmission oil cooler line that is not securely seated in the fitting.
- Consequence
- If the line is not securely seated and transmission oil leaks from the fitting, the oil could contact a hot surface and cause a vehicle fire.
- Remedy
- GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission oil cooler line connection and repair the vehicles, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. - General Motors is recalling certain 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, and 2015 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Silverado HD; and GMC Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL, equipped with a 4.3L engine or 5.3L engine.
- Consequence
- The overheated exhaust components may melt nearby plastic parts and may result in an engine fire.
- Remedy
