2003 UD Ud1400: what breaks, and at what mileage
What breaks on the 2003 UD Ud1400
No owner has filed a defect report with NHTSA about the 2003 UD Ud1400. That is not a clean bill of health — it usually means few were sold, or the year is too new for problems to have surfaced.
Recalls on the 2003 model year
NHTSA has issued 2 recall campaigns covering the 2003 UD Ud1400, affecting an estimated 527 vehicles. A recall is a different kind of evidence from a complaint: it is the regulator and the manufacturer agreeing that something has to be fixed, and the fix is free for as long as the car exists.
The campaigns cover electrical system:12v/24v/48v battery:cables and seat belts:front:anchorage. Whether the work was actually done on the car in front of you is a question only the VIN can answer, and the manufacturer or NHTSA will answer it free.
Recalls also distort complaint counts. Publicity about a campaign reminds owners that complaining is possible, so reports for a recalled component often spike after the recall rather than before it.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES
2,744 vehicles 2005-06-02- Defect
- Certain light duty trucks may have had the outer corrugated protective conduit for the battery cable worn through at the rear transmission mounting bracket and the battery cable may rub against the edge of the third frame cross member support and allow the battery cable to short against the frame.
- Consequence
- This could cause an electrical short, which could result in a fire.
- Remedy
- Dealers will replace the battery cable with a redesigned cable that will prevent movement of the cable inside the corrugated protective conduit and a protective edge guard will be installed on the lower edge of the third chassis frame across member support. The recall began on september 19, 2005. Owners may contact nissan diesel america at 972-756-5500.
SEAT BELTS:FRONT:ANCHORAGE
1,661 vehicles 2003-06-16- Defect
- On certain light duty trucks, the passenger seat belt may have the incorrect seat belt anchor installed.
- Consequence
- In the event of a crash, the seat occupant may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of personal injury.
- Remedy
- Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the passenger seat frame/anchor, if necessary. Owner notification began october 20, 2003. Owners should contact nissan diesel at 1-972-756-5500.
Recall work is free at a franchised dealer regardless of the car's age. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before assuming it was done.
Every year of the UD Ud1400
Scores compare each year against other cars of the same model year, so a low number on an older car is a real result and not an artefact of age.
Why this page is short
A model year needs about 8 reports before percentiles mean anything, and this one does not have them. Complaint volume tracks how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road, so a thin page usually means a rare car, a new car, or a car whose owners do not file.
Where this comes from. Every figure above is computed from NHTSA owner complaints and recall records for this exact make, model and year. Complaints are voluntary and self-selected, so treat counts as a floor. The methodology page writes out each formula, and the same numbers are available as JSON.
