2000 Monon Trailer: what breaks, and at what mileage

What breaks on the 2000 Monon Trailer

Only 2 defect reports have been filed with NHTSA about the 2000 Monon Trailer, which is too few to compute mileage percentiles or a risk score. The reports reported tire blowout or tread separation.

Rate per 1,000 uses a fleet-size estimate derived from recall paperwork for this exact model year. It is a lower bound. Repair costs are typical independent-shop ranges for the failure, not figures from these reports.

Recalls on the 2000 model year

NHTSA has issued 1 recall campaign covering the 2000 Monon Trailer, affecting an estimated 42 vehicles. A recall is a different kind of evidence from a complaint: it is the regulator and the manufacturer agreeing that something has to be fixed, and the fix is free for as long as the car exists.

The campaigns cover service brakes, air:supply:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings. Whether the work was actually done on the car in front of you is a question only the VIN can answer, and the manufacturer or NHTSA will answer it free.

One caution about reading these together: a recall usually raises the complaint count for the same part, because owners who read about it go and file. The mileages stay informative; the counts get noisy.

126 vehicles 2002-07-22
Defect
On certain trailers equipped with wabco 4s/2m system, the electrical and air connections are improperly connected.
Consequence
The service braking system could become ineffective, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
The electrical and air connections will be inspected and repaired is necessary. Owner notification is expected to begin during august 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact hpa monon at 1-800-231-6413.

Recall work is free at a franchised dealer regardless of the car's age. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before assuming it was done.

Every year of the Monon Trailer

Scores compare each year against other cars of the same model year, so a low number on an older car is a real result and not an artefact of age.

What the reports on file say

The complaints recorded against the 2000 Monon Trailer are tire blowout or tread separation (2 reports). With a sample this size these are anecdotes rather than a pattern, and they are shown because somebody looking at this exact car would rather see them than nothing.

Why this page is short

A model year needs about 8 reports before percentiles mean anything, and this one does not have them. Complaint volume tracks how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road, so a thin page usually means a rare car, a new car, or a car whose owners do not file.

Where this comes from. Every figure above is computed from NHTSA owner complaints and recall records for this exact make, model and year. Complaints are voluntary and self-selected, so treat counts as a floor. The methodology page writes out each formula, and the same numbers are available as JSON.
