2006 IC FE: what breaks, and at what mileage
What breaks on the 2006 IC FE
No owner has filed a defect report with NHTSA about the 2006 IC FE. That is not a clean bill of health — it usually means few were sold, or the year is too new for problems to have surfaced.
Recalls on the 2006 model year
NHTSA has issued 2 recall campaigns covering the 2006 IC FE, affecting an estimated 438 vehicles. A recall is a different kind of evidence from a complaint: it is the regulator and the manufacturer agreeing that something has to be fixed, and the fix is free for as long as the car exists.
The campaigns cover structure:body:hood and child seat:latch strap. Whether the work was actually done on the car in front of you is a question only the VIN can answer, and the manufacturer or NHTSA will answer it free.
Recalls also distort complaint counts. Publicity about a campaign reminds owners that complaining is possible, so reports for a recalled component often spike after the recall rather than before it.
STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD
550 vehicles 2005-03-30- Defect
- Certain 2005 and 2006 my ic fe school and commercial buses manufactured from september 4, 2003, through february 5, 2005. When open, the engine cover lid is unsecured.
- Consequence
- The lid may close abruptly if it is bumped, possibly resulting in personal injury.
- Remedy
- Ic will notify its owners and will install a latch and cable assembly to secure the engine cover lid while it is in the open position free of charge. The recall began on april 22, 2005. Owners may contact international at 260-461-1924.
CHILD SEAT:LATCH STRAP
1,142 vehicles 2005-03-30- Defect
- Certain 2004-2006 my ic corporation ce, fe, and re school buses manufactured from may 12, 2003, through march 2, 2005, equipped with child restraint anchorage systems. The diameter latch attachment bars exceed the diameter requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 225, child restraint anchorage systems, which may make it difficult to use with future car seat attachments. In addition, some of the latch attachments are located too far forward of the seat back.
- Consequence
- Not attaching the child seat properly may result in personal injury or death in the event of a vehicle crash. Also, the inappropriate placement of the brackets may result in personal injury to a passenger not seated in a car seat.
- Remedy
- Ic corporation will notify its customers and (1) the brackets will be removed and replaced by a special belt system and (2) the seat frame will be replaced by a frame with a new seat attachment bracket. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on august 19, 2005. Owners may contact international at 260-461-1924.
Recall work is free at a franchised dealer regardless of the car's age. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before assuming it was done.
Every year of the IC FE
Scores compare each year against other cars of the same model year, so a low number on an older car is a real result and not an artefact of age.
Why this page is short
A model year needs about 8 reports before percentiles mean anything, and this one does not have them. Complaint volume tracks how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road, so a thin page usually means a rare car, a new car, or a car whose owners do not file.
Where this comes from. Every figure above is computed from NHTSA owner complaints and recall records for this exact make, model and year. Complaints are voluntary and self-selected, so treat counts as a floor. The methodology page writes out each formula, and the same numbers are available as JSON.
